Located at 234 9th Avenue N, 9th & Thomas is a center of community and activity in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood – one part boutique office building, one part gathering spot. The building is a dialogue about the connections between people and places, movement and urban form, nature and the city. It’s a place you can work, relax, and commune over good coffee, great art and an inspiring environment.
Home to EVOKE Cafe Bar, Jack’s BBQ and Thomas Street Warehouse, 9th & Thomas also hosts pop ups in our HQ3 storefront retail space and artists-in-residence in Spacey Space on the corner (check out website pages and social for more info). Our lobby meets living room is open to the public (dogs welcome) weekdays from 7am to 6pm and weekends 8am to 4pm.
Designed by Olson Kundig and built by Sellen Construction along with a talented team, 9th & Thomas’ vision is inspired by the Redman family’s previous 70 years on the site and looks to the next 70 years of the evolution of South Lake Union. We hope you enjoy being here as much as we loved creating it.
The History
Legacy, family, and history are integral to the 9th & Thomas story. Generations of the Redman family have contributed to the evolution of the South Lake Union neighborhood since 1944, when this urban block was developed as the original home of Sellen Construction, one of Seattle’s premier general contracting firms.
9th & Thomas is a distinctive vision of the urban landscape, resulting from the Redman family’s history on the site and relationship with the Seattle community. After operating from the 9th & Thomas block for more than 50 years, Sellen Construction’s headquarters moved across the alley to Westlake Avenue in 1999. At the time, South Lake Union was a sleepy industrial district and Sellen’s headquarters was the first new building developed in the Westlake corridor.
Today, South Lake Union is home to many of Seattle’s most vibrant businesses and is the city’s newest residential neighborhood. 9th & Thomas was created to be an oasis of art, music and joy for our neighbors, new and old.
